Our climatologic network is designed to provide an adequate density of measurement locations to establish the spatial and temporal characteristics of UV-B irradiance. The network follows a grid-based design that divides the country into 26 regions of approximately equal area. The sites are located primarily in rural areas, with particular consideration given to agricultural and forest regions. The actual distribution is 44% active farmland, 17% rural, 6% grassland, 6% scrubland, 3% above timberline and 11% urban. Detailed information about the locations can be obtained by selecting Locations
Each of our monitoring locations is equipped with instruments that provide measurements to meet the needs of both agricultural and atmospheric researchers. Two of the instruments deployed in the network are unique since they provide the important and useful direct component of solar irradiance without the expense and complexity of a solar tracker. For more information about our instrumentation please select Instrumentation.
